Most students do not need to know their exact practice area before recruit. They do need a thoughtful way to explain what kinds of work, problems, and environments they want to explore.
Practice fit is about tasks, pace, clients, subject matter, and working style.
Start by comparing daily junior tasks across practice areas. Litigation may involve research, evidence, and advocacy. Corporate work may involve diligence, drafting, and closings. Labour and employment often involves practical workplace problems. Tax is technical and rules-focused. Technology and IP can combine contracts, innovation, data, and disputes.
